Why is HughesNet So Slow Today? Updated 2024
When HughesNet is slower than normal see if any of these apply:
- Bad weather can slow down the network.
- Are you online in the early evening? Heavy traffic can cause slower internet.
- Is someone in your household downloading a large file or streaming a film now in HD? That can consume more bandwidth and slow down performance on other devices.
You can also take steps to troubleshoot:
- When it's safe to do so check that your dish is unobstructed. If you see damage or an obstruction, call the 24/7 service line at 866-347-3292 for a tech appointment.
- Power cycle your modem, router, and main computer. Unplug the equipment, wait 4-5 minutes, plug the computer back in first followed by modem and router, and then wait another 5 minutes for the system to reset.
- If you or someone in your home downloaded a browser optimizer on your computer these can cause hiccups during ongoing cache-clearing and cookie deletion. Optimizers save browser memory but can slow you down at times as well.
- If you aren't using an optimizer, try clearing your browser cache and cookies yourself manually in your browser settings to open up some memory in your device. Browsers can store a lot of information and over time and this can reduce the amount of available memory.
- Close any browser windows you are not currently using.
- Check your service tray at the bottom of your screen. Do you need each program to be active now? For example, games that you're not playing or a digital audio workstation that you are not using at the moment. Save your work and close out anything you're not using.
- If it is still slow call HughesNet customer service at 866-347-3292.
