What is the Purpose of ViaSat 3?

The primary objective of each of the three new ViaSat 3 satellites is to provide a robust, high-speed, and affordable internet connection to underserved areas where traditional broadband options are limited. The initial satellite in this constellation, ViaSat-3 Americas, was successfully launched and placed into orbit on May 1, 2023. By the end of August 2023, it will be fully operational, bolstering internet connectivity in North America and parts of South America.

The ViaSat 3 series comprises Ka-band satellites that possess the capability to dynamically adjust and concentrate bandwidth capacity wherever there is demand, whether it's on land, at sea, or in the air. Each of the three satellites in this new system will deliver an impressive 1 Terabit per second of network capacity. This abundant bandwidth will cater to customers' needs during peak usage periods, ensuring faster satellite internet connections capable of handling streaming and other data-intensive activities.

The ViaSat-3 series of Ka-band satellites demonstrates remarkable capabilities, boasting an individual throughput capacity exceeding 1 Terabit per second (TB). These satellites exhibit dynamic flexibility, efficiently allocating and concentrating their capacity precisely where it is required, regardless of location.

VisSat-3 stands as one of the most powerful satellites in space, featuring the largest antenna ever deployed on a communications satellite, acting as a massive amplifier. The comprehensive costs for each ViaSat-3 satellite, including launch, insurance, and ground equipment, amount to approximately $700 million.

With the implementation of the ViaSat-3 constellation, VisSat aims to surpass other satellite-based internet service providers by achieving superior bandwidth efficiency. This enhanced system productivity will meet the growing demand for internet access, stimulate innovation, and create opportunities for VisSat to better serve its customers in North America, expanding coverage and improving the overall user experience. Moreover, it will enable the company to explore new markets within the consumer, commercial, aviation, and maritime sectors.

While specific launch dates have not been confirmed for the next two ViaSat 3 satellites they are expected to be announced by the end of 2023. These will cover Europe, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA), and Asia/Pacific (APAC). The successful deployment of the first satellite, ViaSat-3 Americas, which has already completed orbital maneuvers, will significantly enhance internet access in North America and parts of South America.
