How Fast Will ViaSat-3 Be?

ViaSat-3 represents the next-generation ultra-high capacity satellite platform, featuring an advanced global constellation composed of three distinct geostationary satellites. The initial satellite, which launched in 2023, provides coverage to North and South America. Subsequently, the second satellite, set to launch six months later, will cover Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Finally, the last satellite will be deployed to serve the Asia-Pacific region.

All three satellites in the ViaSat-3 constellation will collectively supply an impressive total network capacity of over 1 Terabit per second (1,000 Gbps), offering affordable, high-speed, and high-quality internet connectivity. It is anticipated that this new satellite constellation will possess approximately 8 times the capacity of Viasat's existing satellite fleet combined.

Once fully operational, this advanced system will have the capability to dynamically allocate bandwidth across the globe, catering to areas with the highest demand. As a result, these satellites can bring affordable satellite-enabled Wi-Fi to billions of people currently without access, while delivering residential internet speeds exceeding 100 Mbps.

Additionally, this enhanced network infrastructure will enable the United States and Five Eyes militaries to leverage artificial intelligence and other confidential technologies over a highly resilient network, expanding their capabilities and operational effectiveness. On May 1, 2023, VisSat achieved a successful launch of ViaSat-3 Americas aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This satellite is the first of the three new ViaSat-3 satellites.
