Hidden Water Records and Promotions
Founded in November 1994, Hidden Water is dedicated to representing independent artists through multimedia outlets. Our mission is to offer low-cost promotional packages to independent musicians and art-related organizations. By leveraging online promotion, we enable grassroots musicians to achieve radio airplay in Belgium, sell CDs in Singapore, and arrange live shows in New Zealand, all without the hefty costs of traditional promotion methods. This strategy levels the playing field, allowing independent artists to compete with those backed by major corporations.
With minimal self-promotion outside of the internet, Hidden Water's websites attract over 350,000 visits monthly from more than 100 countries. Featured in major online directories and indices, our main site and our clients' promotional sites provide comprehensive, browser-independent libraries of information, maintaining high standards of presentation quality accessible to all.
Hidden Water supports a diverse array of clients, including artists from various music genres and art-related organizations. Our promotional sites feature photos, reviews, sound clips, tour schedules, contact information, and more. We maintain up-to-date event calendars, databases, and archives relevant to touring acoustic and folk musicians, along with information on humanitarian organizations.
One of our notable projects includes the promotional site for the critically acclaimed compilation CD "OUT LOUD," benefiting the International Lesbian and Gay Human Rights Commission. This project, co-sponsored by Knitting Factory Works, The Advocate, Deneuve, and 10 Percent, features unreleased tracks by renowned artists such as U2, Indigo Girls, Billy Bragg, Everything But the Girl, and Throwing Muses, and has achieved over 40,000 units in sales nationwide.
Our website is a rich repository of information, including extensive databases like Folk Venue, which contains over 4,000 entries for North American folk and folk-friendly venues, emphasizing content and usability.
As we continue to expand our client base and enhance our databases, Hidden Water has ventured into the record label arena with the release of the debut CD by Atlanta-based alternative rock band Mary Fortune Express. Our hands-off approach allowed the band to control their creativity and produce a CD according to their vision, recorded at Nickel & Dime Studio in Atlanta by Don McCollister (Indigo Girls, Kristen Hall, Billy Pilgrim). Distribution is managed by Dutch East India Trading in New York.
We plan to release 2 to 3 CDs per year across various genres (rock, folk, instrumental), including "enhanced CDs" that combine music playback and multimedia presentations via a computer's CD-ROM drive.
The growth and success of Hidden Water as both a promotions firm and a record label depend on providing valuable information and visually appealing material to consumers worldwide. By anticipating and adopting emerging technologies, we offer our clients innovative methods to achieve their goals, thus fulfilling our mission to represent and promote the best in independent art and music.
Hidden Water Records and Promotions
Hidden Water provides online press kits for artists, organizations, and venues across diverse music genres. Artist sites include reviews, sound excerpts, tour schedules, secure online merchandise ordering, and more. We are always looking for new clients, so explore our offerings, sign up for our newsletter, and get in touch!
We recently released a CD by the Atlanta-based "alternative/bluesy/indiepop" band Mary Fortune Express and are planning to release the debut CD from Northern California-based acoustic rock group Blue House. While we are not currently soliciting demos for new releases, we welcome discussions with solo musicians and bands about potential indie record releases.
All potential clients undergo a screening process to ensure quality and fit. We listen to every submitted CD in its entirety, but our company's nature necessitates a screening process. The most requested service is an online promotional site, which aims to provide a comprehensive multimedia representation of an artist or band, their music, activities, and location. These sites serve as extensions of printed promotional materials, ensuring constant communication with DJs, booking agents, and other industry contacts.
Our artists benefit from direct interaction with fans and industry professionals through message boxes and direct forms, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining connections and facilitating easy communication.
We offer a flat fee for a basic online promotional site, which is a one-time charge. Whether the site remains up for one year or ten, it does so for that single fee.
