Can You Upgrade Viasat Internet?

Internet service upgrades tend to include either more data or faster download speeds or both. With any Viasat Internet Plan you can add more fast-speed data. Whether your plan offers 60 GB per month of fast-speed data or 500 GB per month you can use the My Viasat phone app to purchase more fast data.

The value equation in satellite internet plans tends to focus on speed and data. More fast data and faster speeds tend to correlate to higher costs. Viasat download speeds can range from up to 12 Mbps, 25 Mbps, 30 Mbps, 50 Mbps, 75 Mbps, 100 Mbps or even 150 Mbps. The highest speeds may not be available at all addresses but it only takes a moment to check your address online with Viasat or call our number to see what your options are. Often a plan upgrade is available.

But here’s one thing you may not know. Viasat customers in North America overall are going to see an improvement in their experience due to the deployment of the new Viasat-3 satellite that was launched successfully on May 1, 2023. There are three new satellites in total with this constellation and the final two will serve global regions outside North America. But the first one definitely covers North America and has a significant performance upgrade in network capacity. This means there should be fewer buffering delays, less congestion, and a better overall experience for Viasat customers in North America even with their existing plan.

If your needs are more immediate and you want more capacity now then you can look into upgrading your plan. Whether you wait or don’t wait, the Viasat-3 effect should improve performance. To be fair, you won’t be changing the fast-data allocation without a plan upgrade, but you may notice less congestion and may get closer to the stated “up to” download speeds per your current plan more often after Viasat-3 goes operational in late fall of 2023. It’s very exciting news. The satellite is already in orbit and its final checklist before being declared approved for operational service is well underway. /p>

The three new satellites in the ViaSat-3 constellation will collectively supply a massive total network capacity of over 1 Terabit per second (1,000 Gbps). That’s a nearly 8-times increase over current capabilities. Now that’s an upgrade.
