If you’re considering a purchase of an eero Wi-fi 5 router, or already have one, and you also have Viasat Satellite Internet service, there is good news. The eero Wi-Fi router will be compatible with Viasat equipment. There will be a settings change required in the Administration Console login of your Viasat Gateway router to switch to eero Wi-fi so the signal can “bridge over” the Viasat router. Therefore, it’s best to have your cell phone, a device connected to the internet, and the Gateway network SSID and password, on hand.

You can use an eero with the Viasat Wi-Fi Gateway Modem even though that device has its own built-in secure Wi-Fi network. Regardless of whether you plan to use the eero Wi-Fi, or the Viasat router Wi-Fi, you should save the provided SSID and password printed on a sticker on the side, and on the bottom, of the Viasat Gateway device. You can use your smartphone camera app to snap a photo of it.

You’ll set up a new eero router following the prompts in the eero phone app. The app will ask to connect the eero directly to your modem via an Ethernet cable. Follow the prompt to set up a network name (SSID). You’ll use the eero phone app to authenticate.

The Viasat Gateway unit comes with factory default settings. If you’re switching to eero Wi-Fi then you have to change an advanced setting. Log into the Gateway Administration Console Web Page by typing 192.168.1.18080 as the URL. Click WIFI SETTINGS in the top menu. Enter the username: admin and then the Admin Password from the printed label you saved or photographed. Go to Advanced Settings, scroll down, and enable Bridge Mode. When Bridge Mode is on the Viasat Gateway is disabled so that your eero will access the internet. If you have trouble reaching the Administration Console Page in a browser call Viasat Customer Support at 1-844-720-3199.

Devices that connect to your Wi-Fi network on the eero will use the phone app to log in. If you switch back over to using the Viasat Gateway Wi-Fi you’ll need the Wi-Fi password from the sticker for each device to access the Viasat Wi-Fi network.
