Xfinity RealTime4K and Smart-Boost WiFi for NBA Games: What They Are and How to Turn Them On
Updated

Xfinity is adding two features for the 2026-27 NBA season, RealTime4K and smart-boost WiFi. Comcast announced them on Oct 19, 2026. Every Monday-night NBA game on NBC Sports Network will be available in RealTime4K on Xfinity, and eligible X1 customers can boost their Wi-Fi for the game with one click of the remote.
What RealTime4K is
RealTime4K is Xfinity's ultra-low-latency 4K feed. It's delivered over Xfinity's own network and runs just seconds behind the action on the court, with enhanced picture and audio. That matters in a group chat or a sports betting app, where a feed that's 30 seconds behind gives away the result before you see it.
What smart-boost WiFi does
Smart-boost tells your Xfinity gateway to put your wireless 4K TV box first in line. Once it's on, it automatically boosts the 4K TV box whenever 4K content is playing for the next five hours, so other people streaming or downloading at home are less likely to cause buffering during the game.
Equipment you need
For RealTime4K viewing, Xfinity lists compatible 4K boxes including XG1v4 and Xi6, plus the Xfinity Stream app on supported devices. Smart-boost is a separate Wi-Fi feature for an eligible wireless 4K TV box.
- An eligible wireless Xfinity 4K TV Box for smart-boost, such as Xi6
- A leased Xfinity XB8 gateway or newer
- The Xfinity app
The feature doesn't work if your gateway is in bridge mode with your own router behind it. If you're weighing that setup, read Xfinity's gateway vs your own router.
How to turn on smart-boost
- When a RealTime4K game is on, watch for the on-screen message and press OK on your remote.
- If you missed it, open the Xfinity app, go to the WiFi tab and turn it on there.
- To turn it off, open the WiFi tab in the Xfinity app, choose Advanced Settings, then Smart-boost, and switch it off.
The separate Boost a Device feature in the same tab can prioritize up to three Wi-Fi devices at once, such as a game console or a laptop on a video call.
More NBA features on Xfinity
Monday-night games also stream on Peacock, which is using new delivery technology from Comcast and Fastly to place high-demand events closer to viewers. On X1, the NBA Hub gathers live games, highlights and schedules, Fan View adds live stats, scores and odds, and Multiview shows up to four live games on one screen.
Speed and Wi-Fi tips for 4K games
A single 4K stream typically uses about 25 Mbps. Boosting helps inside your home, but it can't add speed your plan doesn't have. See how much speed you need for streaming in 2026, how to fix slow Xfinity speeds and the best Wi-Fi routers for streaming.
