U-wifi 5G Home Internet: $55 a Month, or Pay With Ads?
Updated

U-wifi is a new 5G home internet service that launched nationwide on October 13, 2026. The plan is $55 a month, but U-wifi lets you lower that bill by watching ads in its FreeU app, and says enough ads can take the cash part of your bill to $0. The first 30 days are free, there is no contract, and there is no early termination fee. The catch is that U-wifi does not publish how many ads equal a dollar, so the real price depends on how much time you are willing to spend watching ads.
How U-wifi works
U-wifi ships a small gateway that plugs straight into a wall outlet. It connects to the strongest 5G signal nearby, so there is no technician visit. U-wifi signed a wholesale agreement with T-Mobile in September 2026, and its ProtectU feature is designed to switch to another major 5G network automatically if the active connection drops.

How FreeU ad credits work
In the U-wifi app you open FreeU, pick ads that match your interests and watch them when you want. Completed ads earn credits on that month’s bill. FreeU is optional; you can simply pay $55.
- Credits are not cash. They only reduce your U-wifi bill.
- No published rate. U-wifi has not said how many minutes of ads cover a month, so you cannot calculate the time cost in advance.
- Privacy trade-off. The ads you choose are tied to your interests. Read the FreeU terms and privacy policy before you sign up.

U-wifi vs T-Mobile and Verizon 5G home internet
T-Mobile Home Internet runs on the network U-wifi resells, while Verizon 5G Home offers several plan tiers and multi-year price guarantees. Their final prices depend on current Auto Pay and mobile-bundle discounts, so compare the address-specific checkout totals. Both have a longer operating record than U-wifi. U-wifi’s advantages are the ad-credit option and multi-network failover; its weakness is that it is brand new, with no history on speeds or support.
Who U-wifi makes sense for
- Households on a tight budget who will actually watch ads to cut the bill.
- People who want a no-contract backup connection with failover.
- Renters who want a plug-in setup with no installer.
If you game competitively, spend all day on video calls, or have fiber available, a wired plan is usually more consistent than any 5G service.
How to test it safely
Use the 30 free days. Run speed tests in the busy evening hours, try a video call, and see how many ads it takes to make a dent in the bill. If it does not work out, cancel before the trial ends and return the gateway as instructed.
