Fidium Fiber vs Xfinity: Which Internet Provider Is Better?

Updated

Fidium Fiber vs Xfinity comes down to fiber's symmetrical speeds and low first-year prices versus Xfinity's five-year price lock and wide availability. Fidium is the fiber brand of Consolidated Communications, available mainly in parts of New England, the Northeast and other Consolidated markets. Xfinity is Comcast's cable and fiber-to-the-home internet service, and it overlaps with Fidium in many of those towns. Here's how they compare in October 2026.

Fidium Fiber wins on upload speed and first-year price: 300 Mbps for $30/mo or 2 Gig for $60/mo for the first year. Xfinity wins on long-term price stability and availability: 300 Mbps for $45/mo or 1 Gig for $70/mo, locked for 5 years. If Fidium reaches your address and you're willing to revisit the price after a year, it's usually the better connection.

Fidium prices from fidiumfiber.com as of October 7, 2026. Xfinity prices from xfinity.com as of October 6, 2026. Both with autopay and paperless billing.

Price: Fidium is cheaper in year one, Xfinity is steadier over five years

Fidium's first-year offers are aggressive: $30 a month for 300 Mbps, or $60 a month for 2 Gig with a free month. After the promo, Fidium's own broadband labels list much higher standard prices, $95 to $130 a month before discounts, so ask what you'll pay in month 13 before you sign up.

Xfinity charges more at the start ($45 for 300 Mbps, $60 for 500 Mbps, $70 for 1 Gig and $100 for 1.2 Gig), but its 5-Year Price Guarantee keeps that rate for five years when you keep autopay and paperless billing. Xfinity also has one-year price options starting at $40. For Xfinity's full cost picture, see what you actually pay for Xfinity and how Xfinity's 5-year price lock works.

Speed: fiber's upload advantage is real

Fidium's plans are symmetrical, so a 2 Gig plan uploads as fast as it downloads, and Fidium advertises latency under 8 ms. That matters if you work from home, back up photos and video to the cloud, livestream or game. Most Xfinity plans run on cable, where download speeds are high but upload speeds are much lower. Xfinity does sell true fiber-to-the-home in some neighborhoods. Learn the difference in Xfinity fiber-powered vs real fiber.

Extras and fine print

  • Xfinity: WiFi equipment and unlimited data included, no annual contract, and Peacock Premium for two years with 1 Gig and faster plans. Xfinity also offers mobile bundle deals.

Which should you choose?

  • Choose Fidium Fiber if it's available at your address and you value upload speed, low latency and a cheap first year, and you're willing to renegotiate or switch when the promo ends.
  • Choose Xfinity if you want one locked price for five years, included equipment and streaming perks, or Fidium doesn't reach your street.
