Updated

Explore our Xfinity and Optimum provider guides, or compare internet options in New York.
Xfinity and Optimum overlap in only a few places, mainly parts of the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut region. Where both serve the same street, the choice usually comes down to price locks. Xfinity is pushing a 5-Year Price Guarantee. Optimum has lower opening prices and fiber in some neighborhoods. Here's how they compare in October 2026.

Xfinity pricing and perks
Xfinity's current offer (through October 25) locks 300 Mbps at $45, 500 Mbps at $60, 1 Gig at $70 and 1.2 Gig at $100 per month for five years. The regular rates are $80, $95, $110 and $140, so the guarantee is worth a lot over five years. WiFi equipment and unlimited data are included. Plans at 1 Gig and faster add Peacock Premium for two years, and new customers can get an Xfinity Mobile line free for a year. If you'd rather not lock in, Xfinity also has one-year pricing starting at $40. More detail: Xfinity's 5-year price guarantee.

Optimum pricing and perks
Optimum's internet cards show 300 Mbps for $35, 500 Mbps for $45 and 1 Gig for $55. The gateway costs $0 for the first 12 months, then can rise up to $5/mo per year. The longest price lock, up to three years, requires keeping SecureWiFi+ at $10/mo, so add that to the real cost if you want the lock. Optimum offers a 60-day money-back guarantee and will cover up to $100 of an early termination fee from your current provider. Where Optimum has fiber, the 1 Gig plan is symmetrical (up to 940 Mbps both ways). On cable, uploads are much lower.
Speed and reliability
On cable, both providers deliver far lower upload than download speeds. That matters for video calls, cloud backups and creators. If your address qualifies for Optimum Fiber, Optimum has the clear upload advantage. If both are cable, the networks perform similarly, and price, equipment and support history decide it.
