Fiber internet has reached Fort Kent, Maine. On October 14, 2026, Fidium announced that its all-fiber network is now commercially available to more than 3,200 homes and businesses in the northern Aroostook County town, with symmetrical speeds from 300 Mbps up to 2 Gig. The buildout was privately funded. Here's what Fort Kent residents can get, what it costs and how it compares with the other options in town.

What Fidium launched in Fort Kent

Fidium's Fort Kent network is fiber to the home, so the fiber line runs all the way to your house instead of switching to copper or coax along the way. That's what lets Fidium offer upload speeds as fast as its downloads, which helps with video calls, cloud backups and sending large files.

Fort Kent is the latest stop in Fidium's northern Maine expansion. Statewide, Fidium reports more than 22,000 miles of fiber and a network available to more than 539,000 homes and businesses. Fidium's Fort Kent page also lists service in nearby communities including New Canada, Wallagrass, Frenchville, Saint John Plantation, Saint Agatha and Sinclair.

Fidium plans and prices

Fidium's advertised plans as of October 20, 2026, on its Fort Kent and Milton pages and homepage, start at $30 a month for 300 Mbps with matching upload speed, and its featured 2 Gig plan is $60 a month with one month free. Those prices are limited-time offers for the first year of new home service and equipment, and they require AutoPay from a bank account and paperless billing. Standard rates apply after the promotion, and pricing varies by address. Every plan has no data cap and no contract, and gigabit plans include Fidium's whole-home Wi-Fi gateway and free professional installation. Fidium also lets you bring your own router.

Satellite internet for rural Aroostook County

  • Starlink: low-orbit satellite service. Residential plans were $55, $85 and $130 a month as of October 2026, according to Starlink's plan pages, plus equipment. Our Starlink guide covers setup and speeds.
  • Viasat: through RSINC, Viasat downloads through RSINC are guaranteed at least 80 Mbps, while upload speeds can reach 3 to 5 Mbps. Its newest satellite is running faster than the download floor during its first year. Plans start at $39.99 a month for the first 12 months, plus a $15 monthly equipment lease, as of October 2026. See how much Viasat costs.
  • Hughesnet: plans start at $39.99 a month for the first 12 months with autopay, as of October 2026, with a 12- or 24-month term and equipment extra. Our guide to Hughesnet data limits explains how its Priority Data works.

Is it worth switching to Fidium?

If you're on DSL today, fiber is a big step up in both speed and reliability, and the 300 Mbps plan is enough for most households to stream on several TVs at once. Busy homes with remote workers, gamers or lots of smart devices will get more out of 1 Gig or 2 Gig. If you already have cable and you're happy with it, compare your current bill and upload speed with Fidium's first-year price and what you'll pay after the promotion ends.
