AT&T Fiber vs Verizon Fios: Which Fiber Plan Is the Better Deal?
Updated

Most homes cannot pick between these two, because Verizon Fios is mainly in the Mid-Atlantic and New England while AT&T Fiber mostly serves the South, Midwest and West. Where both reach your address, AT&T usually costs less for a gig: it advertised 1 GIG at $70 a month for the first year in October 2026, against $90 for Fios 1 Gig. Fios wins on price certainty, with a 5-year price guarantee on its gig plans and all-in pricing that includes taxes and fees.

Price and bundles
AT&T's 1 GIG plan at $70 a month undercuts Fios 1 Gig by $20, though AT&T adds taxes and fees while Verizon's price includes them. Both companies cut the price a lot when you add their phone service: AT&T says bundled customers can get fiber for as low as $35 a month, and Verizon's Mobile + Home discounts also waive the $99 setup charge. If you already have one company's wireless plan, price that bundle first.
Speed and upload
Both are true fiber, so upload speeds are far better than cable. AT&T's plans are symmetrical. Fios 1 Gig is rated up to 940 Mbps down and 880 Mbps up, and its 2 Gig and 5 Gig tiers go further. For most homes, 300 to 500 Mbps on either network covers 4K streaming, gaming and video calls at the same time.

Equipment and extras
AT&T includes a Wi-Fi gateway and, with an eligible unlimited AT&T wireless plan, Internet Backup that switches to cellular if the fiber goes down. Fios includes a Wi-Fi 6E router on every plan, adds Whole-Home Wi-Fi extenders on 1 Gig and up, and offers cellular backup for Mobile + Home customers.
Which should you choose?
- Choose AT&T Fiber if it is the fiber at your address or you want the lowest gig price before bundles.
- Choose Verizon Fios if you want a long price guarantee and all-in pricing with no added taxes or fees.
- Choose whichever matches your phone carrier, since bundle savings usually decide it.
