Xfinity vs T-Mobile Home Internet: Which Should You Pick?

Updated

Xfinity or T-Mobile 5G Home Internet? Pick Xfinity if you want faster, steadier wired speeds and the lowest 5-year price at the entry tier. Pick T-Mobile if you already have a T-Mobile phone line, rent or move often, or want a gateway you can set up yourself in minutes. Xfinity delivers cable internet over a wired line in most of its footprint. T-Mobile Home Internet sends service over its 5G cellular network to a gateway you plug in at home. Here's how the two compare on price, speed, fine print and total cost in October 2026.

Xfinity is the better pick for speed and the lowest 5-year price at the entry tier: 300 Mbps for $45/mo for 5 years, 1 Gig for $70/mo. T-Mobile Home Internet wins if you have a T-Mobile phone line: $50 to $70/mo, or $35 to $55 with a voice line, also locked for 5 years, with self-setup and no technician.

Xfinity prices from xfinity.com and T-Mobile prices from t-mobile.com, both checked October 8, 2026, with autopay. Taxes and fees extra.

Price: Xfinity is cheaper at the entry tier, T-Mobile is cheaper with a phone line

Both companies now sell a 5-year price guarantee, which makes a straight comparison easier than it used to be. Xfinity's 300 Mbps plan is $45/mo for five years, $5 less than T-Mobile's Rely plan at $50. At the top end, Xfinity's 1 Gig plan and T-Mobile's All-In plan both cost $70/mo. Our October 2026 internet deals roundup compares both offers with other providers.

The big swing is T-Mobile's $15/mo voice-line discount. If someone in your home already pays for a T-Mobile phone plan, Rely drops to $35 and All-In to $55, so Rely undercuts the listed Xfinity entry tier; compare All-In against the speed tier you need. Xfinity also advertises mobile bundles; compare the full phone-and-internet checkout total and any rate that applies after a promotion.

Our 5-year cost comparison

Plan (with autopay)Monthly5-year total
Xfinity 300 Mbps$45$2,700
T-Mobile Rely$50 ($35 with voice line)$3,000 ($2,100 with voice line)
Xfinity 1 Gig$70$4,200
T-Mobile All-In$70 ($55 with voice line)$4,200 ($3,300 with voice line)

Our math: listed monthly price times 60 months, as of October 8, 2026. Excludes taxes, fees, one-time charges and limited-time promos (T-Mobile currently advertises a month on us plus $100 back on Rely and Amplified, or $200 back on All-In). If Xfinity needs a technician, add $100 once. T-Mobile lists a $35 device connection charge; confirm any waiver. Voice-discount totals assume the qualifying phone line remains active, and do not include its separate phone bill.

Speed and reliability: Xfinity's wired line is more consistent

Xfinity's speeds arrive over a cable line, so they don't depend on cell signal or how busy a tower is. That matters most in the evening and for uploads. T-Mobile's typical downloads of 170 to 498 Mbps are plenty for streaming and browsing, but they move with signal strength and network load, and typical uploads fall in the listed 12 to 55 Mbps range; some customers see speeds outside it. T-Mobile also says data can be prioritized during congestion. See why 5G home internet slows down at night and what deprioritization means.

Uploads are where cable also has limits. Xfinity's upload speeds are a fraction of its download speeds on most plans, so if you upload large files every day, check each plan's broadband label before you buy. Our Xfinity "fiber-powered" vs real fiber guide explains why, and fiber vs 5G home internet shows how fiber compares if it reaches your address.

Extras and fine print

  • Streaming perks: T-Mobile All-In includes Hulu and Paramount+ Essential. Xfinity currently advertises Peacock Premium for two years with its 1 Gig plan; activation and eligibility terms apply.
  • Price-lock exclusions: T-Mobile's guarantee covers the plan price, not taxes and fees. T-Mobile is also raising a line-item fee on October 12, 2026; see whether that fee hits home internet.
  • Trial period: T-Mobile offers a 15-day test drive. Xfinity has no annual contract, so you can cancel anytime.
  • Moving: T-Mobile service is tied to an approved address, so check availability at the new one first (see moving 5G home internet to a new address). Xfinity needs coverage at the new address too.
