T-Mobile Home Internet vs. CenturyLink: Compare the Connection and Total Cost
By RSINC editorial team | Updated

T-Mobile 5G Home Internet and CenturyLink can represent very different connections at the same address. T-Mobile uses a cellular gateway; a CenturyLink offer may use copper DSL or fiber. Start by identifying the technology actually available to your home, then compare the full monthly bill and the connection's upload performance.
Compare the connection before the headline price
| Question | T-Mobile 5G Home Internet | CenturyLink |
|---|---|---|
| How does it reach the home? | Fixed wireless through a 5G gateway. | DSL over copper telephone wiring or fiber, depending on the address and current provider. |
| What determines eligibility? | The exact service address, available network capacity and signal. | The wired network and service offered at that property. |
| What should you compare? | Plan, AutoPay and voice-line requirements, taxes, equipment and any connection charge. | Quoted speed, upload speed, equipment, installation and all recurring fees. |
What to know about T-Mobile's prices
Rely, Amplified and All-In are separate home internet plans. Check the current offer for your address and whether it requires AutoPay or an eligible mobile line. The public plan cards and comparison table showed different price presentations during our November 3 review, so this guide does not promise a single nationwide rate. Use the written order summary and Broadband Facts label before paying.
The advertised five-year protection applies to eligible internet data service, with exclusions such as taxes and fees. It does not make every part of the bill fixed. Cellular speeds can vary with network conditions and prioritization; an unlimited data allowance does not mean unlimited performance. CenturyLink DSL and fiber need separate comparisons
DSL uses copper telephone wiring for the internet connection. A fast download headline alone is insufficient: ask for the property's actual service tier and upload rate. Compare that with a trial of wireless service during the hours your household is busiest.
Do not assume CenturyLink fiber has disappeared everywhere. AT&T completed its acquisition of substantially all of Lumen's mass-market fiber business in February 2026, covering acquired fiber locations in 11 states. That transaction does not mean every CenturyLink connection became AT&T Fiber. CenturyLink's current public site still displays fiber offers with limited-location conditions. Confirm who serves your address and what product is being sold rather than applying an old nationwide DSL price to fiber.
A copper voice-service notice also needs its own check. Our CenturyLink Orlando and Las Vegas landline notice guide concerns specified legacy voice locations; it is not a declaration that every CenturyLink internet account ends on the same date.
Which connection should you try?
For a household with slow DSL, a qualifying 5G offer is worth testing before cancellation. For a home offered suitable fiber, compare its upload capacity and total price before choosing wireless on a discount alone. These are buying considerations, not a prediction of your property's speeds. Our fiber versus 5G guide explains the technologies.
Keep the existing connection until the replacement is installed and tested. Check video calls, work access, streaming and all essential devices. A ZIP search is only an initial screen; confirm the complete street and unit address, equipment compatibility and final order terms.
Frequently asked questions
Is T-Mobile Home Internet the same as fiber?
No. This comparison concerns fixed wireless 5G service delivered through a cellular gateway. Check the technology named on your actual order.
Is there one T-Mobile price for every household?
No. Compare the current plan and written quote, including AutoPay, mobile-line discounts, taxes and other charges.
Did every CenturyLink service become AT&T?
No. The February 2026 transaction covered substantially all of Lumen's mass-market fiber business in 11 states, not every CenturyLink service.
Should I cancel DSL before testing 5G?
Keep the existing connection until the replacement works for your household. Test it at busy times and review cancellation and equipment-return terms.
Does a ZIP code prove service availability?
No. Confirm the exact street and unit address, the offered technology and the final installation or signal eligibility.
