Pahrump, NV Internet: Nevada Pulls $52M From Rural Broadband, So What Are Your Options Now?
Updated

Some Pahrump residents waiting on new fiber internet just got bad news. Nevada has pulled $52 million in federal pandemic relief money that was meant to build broadband in the Pahrump area, after the contractor, Stimulus Inc., said it couldn't finish certain connections before the money's December 31, 2026 spending deadline, The Nevada Independent reported on October 16, 2026. If you live in Pahrump, here's what changed and what internet you can actually get today.
What happened to the Pahrump broadband money
Nevada has to spend all $2.7 billion of its pandemic relief funds by the end of 2026. At an October 15 meeting of the state's Interim Finance Committee, lawmakers were told that Stimulus couldn't complete some of its planned Pahrump connections in time. Inside Towers reported that the project ran into delays with utility poles and franchise agreements.
The $52 million is more than a quarter of the roughly $200 million in relief money the state set aside for rural broadband. It's being redirected to mental health care in jails, a state food-insecurity program and multifamily housing development. Britta Appel, director of the Governor's Office of Science, Information and Technology, which oversees the broadband projects, called it "a challenging decision to make."
Who's affected
The state doesn't yet know exactly which locations will be left out of the buildout, but northern Pahrump is expected to be hit hardest. Stimulus Broadband had announced in July 2026 that it would build a 500-mile fiber network reaching more than 11,000 Pahrump homes and businesses with speeds up to 2,500 Mbps, and it planned to use that network as a hub to reach nearby rural communities. That wider expansion is now in doubt as well, and state officials say it's unclear when or how these areas will get the new service.
The state described the cut as covering parts of the Pahrump area, and the rest of the buildout is continuing. If you signed up for updates from Stimulus, check with the company about whether your address is still in its build plan.

- 5G home internet: T-Mobile 5G Home Internet and Verizon 5G Home Internet are listed in much of the area, and AT&T Internet Air covers a smaller slice.

Satellite internet for Pahrump and Nye County
If no wired provider reaches your property, satellite covers essentially all of Pahrump and the surrounding desert:
- Starlink: low-orbit satellite service. Residential plans were $55, $85 and $130 a month as of October 2026, according to Starlink's plan pages, plus equipment. Our Starlink guide covers setup and speeds.
- Viasat: through RSINC, Viasat downloads through RSINC are guaranteed at least 80 Mbps, while upload speeds can reach 3 to 5 Mbps. Its newest satellite is running faster than the download floor during its first year. Plans start at $39.99 a month for the first 12 months, plus a $15 monthly equipment lease, as of October 2026. See how much Viasat costs.
- Hughesnet: plans start at $39.99 a month for the first 12 months with autopay, as of October 2026, with a 12- or 24-month term and equipment extra. Our guide to Hughesnet data limits explains how its Priority Data works.
For most homes outside fiber, 5G home internet or satellite is the realistic choice for now. Satellite is the one that works at the end of a long dirt road with no cell signal.
