How to Find Your Wi-Fi Password on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android

Start with a device already connected to the Wi-Fi network, the router label or your provider account. You may be able to reveal a saved password without changing the network or disconnecting every device.

If you use provider equipment, see the Xfinity network-key guide. To set a new password instead, use the Wi-Fi name and password guide.

Check the label and provider app

The router’s label may list the original network name and password. That label will not show a password changed later. If your provider manages the gateway, sign in to its official app or account and look for the Wi-Fi settings. The Wi-Fi password is different from the administrator password used to manage the router.

Use a Windows computer that knows the network

Microsoft’s current Windows Wi-Fi guide describes the available password-viewing options. Recent Windows builds offer the security-key display in Wi-Fi network settings. Where the older interface is used, open Network and Sharing Center, select the Wi-Fi connection, then Wireless Properties, Security and Show characters. Menu locations can vary by Windows version.

Find it on an iPhone or iPad

On supported versions, open Settings, Wi-Fi, tap the information button for the network, then Password. Authenticate to reveal it. Apple also describes previously joined networks and the Passwords app in its saved Wi-Fi password instructions.

Mac and Android options

Look for a saved network’s password or sharing control in the device’s Wi-Fi or password settings. Names differ by operating-system version and phone maker. A sharing QR code can grant network access, so share it only with people you intend to connect. For a managed work or school network, use the administrator’s connection instructions.

Reset only when needed

If the saved password no longer matches, confirm the correct network and ask whoever manages it. Changing a Wi-Fi password means reconnecting devices that used the old one. A factory reset can also remove provider settings and other configuration; it is not the first step for recovering a forgotten password.

After reconnecting, save the details securely and check the devices you rely on, such as printers, cameras and smart-home controls.
