AT&T vs. Sparklight: Compare Fiber, Cable and Total Costs
By RSINC editorial team | Updated

If AT&T Fiber and Sparklight both reach your address, compare the actual upload speed, total bill and promotion terms before choosing. Its plans have matching upload and download speeds, no data caps and no annual contract, starting at $50 a month for 300 Mbps with AutoPay as of October 2026. Sparklight, the cable brand of Cable One, wins on promotional price at the high end: new customers can get 1 Gig for $50 a month for two years, plus a gift card and a free mobile line. Ask for the standard rate that applies after the two-year promotion; it depends on your plan and area.

Prices compared (October 30, 2026)
| Plan | Price | Speed | Terms |
|---|---|---|---|

| AT&T Internet 500 | $60/mo | 500 Mbps up and down | With AutoPay and paperless billing, no contract |
| AT&T Internet 1 GIG | $70/mo | 1,000 Mbps up and down | With AutoPay and paperless billing, no contract |
| Sparklight 1 Gig | $50/mo for 24 months | Up to 1 Gbps download | New customers, AutoPay and paperless; offer ends Jan 3, 2027 |
| Sparklight 300 Mbps and 600 Mbps | Varies by area | 300 or 600 Mbps download | No contract |
Request the regular monthly service charge and any modem or Wi-Fi equipment charge in writing. AT&T's base service includes a gateway; optional Wi-Fi upgrades may cost extra. Households that qualify for programs such as SNAP or Medicaid can get Sparklight's Lift Internet at 200 Mbps for $29.95 a month with equipment included.
Speeds and the upload difference
AT&T Fiber's biggest technical advantage is symmetrical speed. On a 500 Mbps plan you can upload at 500 Mbps too, which helps with video calls, cloud backups, security cameras and anyone who streams or sends big files. Sparklight's network is fiber-powered cable, and like most cable services its upload speeds are usually well below its download speeds. Large cloud backups and frequent file uploads make the advertised upstream rate particularly relevant. For streaming, compare the household's simultaneous activity and Wi-Fi coverage too.
Data, contracts and equipment
- AT&T Fiber has no data caps and no annual contract.
- Sparklight's current offers include an unlimited data plan and no contract. If you're on an older Sparklight plan, check whether yours has a data limit. Our data caps guide explains how these work.
- Sparklight's promo requires AutoPay from a bank account or debit card plus paperless billing. AT&T's listed prices also assume AutoPay and paperless billing.

Price over time
Promotions change the math. Over the first two years, Sparklight's 1 Gig at $50 is cheaper than AT&T's 1 GIG at $70, a saving of about $480, plus a $100 gift card. After the promo ends, Sparklight's regular rate applies, which may be higher than AT&T's price. Put a reminder in your calendar a month before your promo ends so you can call and ask about a new offer or switch. Our guide to Sparklight deals covers current offers in more detail.
Which should you pick?
- Pick AT&T Fiber if you work from home, upload a lot, game competitively or prefer the quoted fiber plan and its current terms.
- Pick Sparklight if AT&T Fiber doesn't reach you, if you want the cheapest gigabit price for the next two years, or if the free mobile line saves you money.
- If AT&T only offers DSL or Internet Air at your address, compare the actual speed estimates with Sparklight cable rather than applying the fiber comparison. Our comparison of AT&T Internet Air and T-Mobile explains how AT&T's 5G service performs.
Some readers have also asked about Cable One's finances. Our look at whether Sparklight is in financial trouble covers what that means for customers. For another AT&T fiber matchup, see AT&T Fiber vs. Spectrum, or browse every plan on our AT&T provider page.
