What to Check Before You Sign an Internet Contract or Price Guarantee in 2026

Before ordering internet, confirm the full monthly price, promotion end date, contract term and cancellation costs in writing. Compare the exact plan offered at your address rather than a headline price from another market.

Start with our Broadband Facts label guide and what can happen after an internet promotion ends.

Read the plan label and order summary together

Request the provider’s current Broadband Facts information and service agreement. Compare monthly charges, any introductory period, typical speeds, data allowance and one-time costs. Check whether equipment and taxes are included in the quoted amount.

Providers such as Xfinity and CenturyLink explain their labels and how to find plan information. A label is useful for comparing offers, while the order and agreement provide the specific terms you are accepting.

Separate price protection from a contract

A price guarantee and a minimum service commitment are different things. Ask which charges are protected, for how long, and what happens if you move, change plans or remove a qualifying bundle. Ask whether an early-termination fee applies and how it is calculated.

List every cost

  • Monthly internet service before and after any promotion.
  • Equipment, installation, activation and delivery.
  • Data overage or optional unlimited-data charges.
  • Taxes, permitted fees and optional add-ons.
  • Equipment-return obligations and any cancellation costs.

If AutoPay is needed for a discount, confirm the eligible payment method and what happens if it changes. A reimbursement offer for leaving another provider can have separate claim and payment conditions.

Check what the speed means for your home

Compare typical download, upload and latency figures with your needs. Confirm the access technology and the equipment supplied. A connection advertised in a nearby neighbourhood does not establish availability at your property, and a higher service tier does not guarantee the same speed over every Wi-Fi device.

Save the agreement before cancelling old service

Keep the final quote, plan label, confirmation number and installation date. Ask how to cancel, how to return equipment and when any trial or satisfaction period ends. If continuous service matters, arrange the transition so you can test the replacement before ending the old connection.

For a bundle comparison, see T-Mobile Home Internet total costs. Compare the whole household bill rather than one discounted line item.
