What Channel Is C-SPAN On? Channels, Free Events and Online Access
By RSINC editorial team | Updated

DIRECTV's current channel guide lists C-SPAN on channel 350 and C-SPAN2 on 351. Cable channel numbers vary by provider and market, so use the guide for your actual service. For online viewing, distinguish free streams of government events from the full live television-network feeds, which require an eligible cable or satellite login.
Find the channel for your service
| Service | C-SPAN | C-SPAN2 |
|---|---|---|
| DIRECTV channel guide | 350 | 351 |
| DISH | Check the current on-screen guide | Check the current on-screen guide |
| Local cable service | Check the local lineup | Check the local lineup |
Search by channel name if a number does not appear. Availability can depend on the television product and package, and an internet connection by itself is not a C-SPAN television subscription. Check the current guide rather than applying a number from another provider or location.
For the DIRECTV-specific route, see our C-SPAN on DIRECTV guide. This page does not promise that every package or app has the same viewing rights.
Watch government events without a TV login
C-SPAN's online access policy provides live coverage of federal government events without sign-in. It lists House and Senate debates, committee hearings, executive-branch events, courts and election coverage, plus Washington Journal. The C-SPAN Now app provides House, Senate and key political-event streams without a cable or satellite subscription.
Choose the event's own stream when you want a particular proceeding. A free event stream and the continuous C-SPAN channel feed are different viewing routes; the fact that an event is free does not make every live television program unrestricted.
Full live channel feeds require verification
C-SPAN states that access to its three live television-network feeds online is reserved for customers of participating cable and satellite providers. Sign in through the television-provider verification process if your subscription qualifies. A personal MyC-SPAN account is separate from verification of a pay-TV subscription.
The Video Library also provides archived programming on demand. Check whether the program is live, archived or awaiting availability before deciding that a missing channel number means you cannot watch it.
Know which network carries the program
C-SPAN's current FAQ identifies C-SPAN with House coverage. C-SPAN2 carries Senate coverage, American History TV on Saturdays and Book TV on Sundays. C-SPAN3 provides additional public-affairs programming, including hearings, briefings and speeches. Use the published daily schedule for a specific program because live events can change the lineup.
If online video buffers, first distinguish a connection problem from a login, device or program-access issue. A faster internet plan does not unlock a television feed. If you compare connections, start with ZIP screening and confirm the exact address, equipment and full service terms before ordering.
