T-Mobile Fiber vs Verizon Fios: Which Fiber Provider Should You Choose?
Updated

T-Mobile Fiber and Verizon Fios are both 100% fiber-to-the-home services with matching upload and download speeds, unlimited data, and no annual contracts. Where both are available, mostly in parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic where T-Mobile Fiber has built into Fios territory, the decision comes down to price at the speed you need, how long each provider locks that price, and the setup costs on day one.
Here's how they stack up based on each provider's published plans on October 1, 2026.

Pricing: who's cheaper?
T-Mobile Fiber lists regular rates of $70 a month for 1 Gig and $80 for 2 Gig, and it regularly runs limited-time promotions on top of that, such as bill credits, free months, or prepaid cards on qualifying plans. Its $10 AutoPay discount requires a bank account or debit card; pay another way and the bill is $10 higher.
Verizon Fios showed "as low as" pricing of $40 for 300 Mbps, $75 for 500 Mbps, $90 for 1 Gig, $100 for 2 Gig, and $110 for 5 Gig on October 1. Those figures assume Verizon's available discounts, including Auto Pay with paper-free billing. Households with Verizon mobile lines can unlock extra perks through Verizon's Mobile + Home program, including a monthly credit toward streaming perks on the 1 Gig plan.
At the gigabit level, T-Mobile Fiber's published rate is meaningfully lower. For light users who only need 300 Mbps, Fios's entry plan is competitive, especially if Verizon waives the setup fee.

Speed and performance
Both services deliver symmetrical speeds, which is what makes fiber great for video calls, uploading large files, gaming, and cloud backups. Verizon says its 1 Gig plan delivers up to 940 Mbps down and 880 Mbps up on a wired connection. T-Mobile Fiber's plans run from 300 Mbps to 2 Gig depending on the location.
If you truly need more than 2 Gig, Fios is the only one of the two that sells 5 Gig. Very few homes need it. You'd need multi-gig network gear and devices to see those speeds, and Wi-Fi will cap most real-world use well below that.
Price guarantees: read the fine print
Both providers now sell long price locks, which takes the sting out of the usual "promo ends, bill jumps" problem.
- T-Mobile Fiber's 5-Year Price Guarantee covers the price of fiber internet data on an eligible plan. It excludes taxes and fees, equipment or speed upgrades you choose later, select limited-time promotions, and third-party services. It doesn't restart if you change plans.
- Verizon's 3- or 5-year guarantee applies to the then-current base monthly rate on an eligible plan. It excludes setup and additional equipment charges, discounts or promotions, plan perks, and third-party services.
In both cases, a promotional credit can end before the guarantee does. Ask what your bill will be once every promotion runs out.
Equipment, setup and day-one costs
T-Mobile includes installation and a Wi-Fi 6 router, and the technician may add one mesh extender if parts of your home have a weak signal. Verizon includes its router on every Fios plan and adds Whole-Home Wi-Fi coverage on 1 Gig and faster tiers. Verizon notes a $99 setup charge may apply and that service is subject to credit approval. Both companies require you to return equipment if you cancel.
Which should you choose?
Pick T-Mobile Fiber if you want the lowest gigabit price, free installation, and a five-year lock, and you don't need more than 2 Gig.
Pick Verizon Fios if you already have Verizon mobile lines and can stack perks and a setup-fee waiver, want 5 Gig, or only need an inexpensive 300 Mbps plan.
