Starlink Qualcomm Deal: What Starlink Mobile's Planned 2027 5G Network Means
By RSINC editorial team | Updated

Qualcomm announced on November 4 that SpaceX selected its Dragonwing infrastructure platforms for Starlink Mobile's planned U.S. terrestrial 5G network. This announcement concerns cellular base stations for a mobile network, rather than a software upgrade that makes an existing residential satellite dish faster.
What the announcement confirms
The announced equipment includes the QRU100 and QDU100 platforms and Layer 1 software. Qualcomm describes Massive MIMO radios with 64 transmit and 64 receive paths. The multi-year agreement envisages tens of thousands of sites, with U.S. deployment planned to begin in 2027.
A planned deployment start is not a promise that every address will have service that year. The release does not establish a retail price, a customer-order date or eligibility for a particular phone. Future 6G aspirations should also be distinguished from the announced terrestrial 5G work.
What this means for home-internet shopping
If you need a connection now, compare services that accept orders at your address. A future mobile-network announcement is not evidence that your existing home plan has changed or that a new product can be ordered. Check current Starlink information and the terms of the specific residential offer separately.
Satellite and terrestrial networks have different equipment and service requirements. Do not assume that a rooftop dish, a phone and a cellular home-internet gateway can be used interchangeably simply because the same company is involved.
What to verify before changing service
Wait for an actual consumer offer that identifies supported devices, service areas, plan terms and activation requirements. If a provider later announces coverage, confirm your particular address or device rather than relying on a nationwide ambition. Keep your existing connection until a replacement is available and tested for your needs.
