Starlink in Nova Scotia: What Rural Households Need to Know in 2026

This guide covers what matters for Starlink in Nova Scotia in 2026: how well rural areas are covered, which public programs apply, how to install for local weather, and what else is available.

Rural and remote coverage

Build Nova Scotia says the Internet for Nova Scotia Initiative has reached about 99% coverage. It says coverage is close to 100% when the satellite rebate is counted.

Provincial and local programs

Nova Scotia's Satellite Internet Service Rebate is still accepting applications from homes and businesses that don't have high-speed wired or fixed wireless internet. It covers one-time setup costs from a qualified provider, including hardware, taxes, shipping and installation, up to $1,000. Monthly subscription fees aren't covered. Build Nova Scotia warns that unverified sellers may pose as Starlink, so buy only from Starlink directly or from verified resellers.

Federal funding

The federal Universal Broadband Fund is a $3.225 billion program to bring 50/10 Mbps internet to 98% of Canadian households by the end of 2026 and 100% by 2030. As of May 2026, ISED reports that 97.4% of all households, and 87.4% of rural households, had access to 50/10 Mbps service. The fund pays for infrastructure projects, not rebates for individual households.

Installing for Atlantic storms

Nor'easters and hurricanes reach Nova Scotia. Mount the dish solidly, seal cable entries, and plan for power outages.

Rogers Satellite for phones

Rogers Satellite runs on Starlink and connects compatible, unlocked phones where there's no cell coverage. It's included on new Rogers 5G+ plans. Otherwise it costs $10/month for 12 months for existing Rogers customers, or $15/month for anyone else, including customers of other carriers. Check Rogers' coverage information to confirm service in your area.
