Starlink's 50% Cameron County Discount: Who Qualifies and What It Costs
Updated

Starlink is cutting Residential service prices in half for homes in the Cameron County area of South Texas, the county that includes SpaceX's Starbase headquarters. Starlink announced the Cameron County Area Discount on October 5, 2026. It covers new and existing customers at eligible addresses, and new customers pay nothing upfront for the hardware. Here's who qualifies, what the plans cost after the discount, and how to check your address.
Starlink is taking 50% off Residential plans at eligible addresses in the Cameron County, Texas, area. That works out to about $27.50, $42.50 or $65 a month (normally $55, $85 and $130), with $0 hardware for new customers. Existing customers at eligible addresses get the lower rate automatically. Your address on Starlink's order page decides who qualifies.

All three plans include unlimited data. The 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps tiers cap download speeds at those levels and are only sold in select areas, so some addresses may only see Residential Max. Taxes are extra. For a breakdown of how Starlink prices vary by location, see how much Starlink really costs in your area.

Who qualifies
Eligibility is based only on your Starlink service address. Starlink published a map of the eligible zone with the announcement, and the order page is the practical test. Brownsville, Harlingen, San Benito, Port Isabel, South Padre Island and the Starbase area are all in Cameron County, but Starlink hasn't published a list of qualifying towns or ZIP codes. Check your exact address rather than assuming.
- Go to Starlink's website and enter your exact service address.
- Choose a Residential plan, not Roam.
- Confirm the discounted monthly price and $0 hardware before you pay.
Already a customer? Make sure the service address on your account is your real home address, then watch your next bill for the discount. Don't move your pin to a neighbor's property to try to qualify. Service is tied to the registered address.
Is half-price Starlink the best deal in the Rio Grande Valley?
At about $27.50 to $65 a month with no hardware cost, Starlink becomes one of the cheapest home internet options in Cameron County. Whether it's the best option depends on what else reaches your street:
- Cable or fiber available? Wired service usually has lower latency and much faster uploads than satellite. If a cable or fiber plan with a long price lock costs about the same, it may still be the better pick for gaming and video calls.
- Rural or edge-of-town address? If your wired choices are slow DSL or nothing at all, the discounted Starlink plans are hard to beat.
- Need a clear view of the sky. Starlink needs an unobstructed view for the dish. Trees and nearby buildings can cause dropouts. Read the downsides of Starlink before you order.

Part of a bigger SpaceX neighbor program
Cameron County follows a nearly identical 50% Residential discount in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, near SpaceX's planned Gulf Coast launch site. Reports say a similar neighbor discount was offered earlier near SpaceX's operations in Memphis, Tennessee. Read our Louisiana Starbase discount guide for how that program works.
