More rural Polk County, Florida residents now have a new option for home internet. Spectrum says its network expansion in Polk County is nearing completion. Spectrum Internet with speeds up to 1 Gig, along with Spectrum Mobile, TV and Voice, is now available to more than 10,000 homes and small businesses that it newly reaches.

What Spectrum announced

  • Coverage: More than 10,000 new homes and small businesses in Polk County.
  • Speeds: Internet speeds up to 1 Gig.
  • Services: Internet, Mobile, TV and Voice.
  • Timing: Spectrum marked the milestone on September 28, 2026, as construction neared completion.

The Polk County build is part of Spectrum's multi-year rural construction initiative. Spectrum says it's investing more than $7 billion to add more than 100,000 miles of fiber-optic network and reach more than 1.7 million new locations nationwide. Spectrum also announced a $50,000 digital education grant to Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay. The grant supports hands-on financial and career learning for about 25,000 students a year in Polk, Hardee and Highlands counties.

Why it matters for Polk County households

Many rural homes outside Lakeland, Winter Haven and the county's other population centers have relied on satellite, fixed wireless or cellular internet. A wired gig-speed connection can mean steadier streaming, faster uploads for work and school, and no data caps.

How to check if you can get it

  1. Check your exact address. Expansion coverage is street by street, so a neighbor's service doesn't guarantee yours.
  2. Compare speeds. 500 Mbps handles most busy households, and 1 Gig suits heavy uploaders and large homes.
  3. Ask about installation and equipment so there are no surprises on your first bill.
