Why Lumos, and why Lorain
This build follows a larger plan. In August 2025, Lumos said it would bring fiber to more than 226,000 addresses across 27 cities and communities in Lorain and Cuyahoga counties, including Lorain, Elyria, Amherst, Avon and Avon Lake. Lumos builds and owns the network, and T-Mobile Fiber sells home service on it. City officials say Lumos approached them about the project and that it will also serve small businesses and apartment buildings.
What T-Mobile Fiber service looks like
T-Mobile Fiber's current plans run from 300 Mbps to 2 Gig, with matching upload and download speeds. According to T-Mobile's fiber plans page, every plan includes a Wi-Fi router, installation is included, and there are no annual contracts. AutoPay takes $10 off the monthly price. T-Mobile shows prices only after you enter an address, so Lorain prices won't be clear until service opens on your street. Don't count on a promotion you see today still being offered then.

Should you wait for Lumos fiber?
- If your plan is month to month, there's little downside to waiting. Switch when T-Mobile Fiber opens on your block.
- If a promotion would lock you into a contract, check the early termination fee before signing. A new fiber option may reach your street within months.
- If you need faster upload speeds now, for video calls or large file uploads, check whether Brightspeed or Kinetic fiber already serves your address. Fiber offers matching upload and download speeds, unlike most cable plans.
- Watch for notices. The city says residents will hear from Lumos before crews arrive. That's a good sign service is coming soon.
