Internet Prices in Fall 2026: What to Check Before Switching
By RSINC editorial team | Updated

Some broadband offers became more expensive after the summer's promotions, but that does not mean every customer's bill rose. An October 6 Broadband Breakfast report summarized MoffettNathanson's finding that prices were starting to edge up. The analyst also cautioned that it was too early to call this a lasting reversal of a longer decline.
For current address-specific options, use our provider directory and guides to AT&T, Xfinity and Optimum. A price reported earlier in the month is not a quote for your account today.
A higher advertised offer and a higher bill are different
A provider can change its new-customer promotion without changing an existing customer's agreement. Your own bill can also rise when a discount expires, equipment is added or a qualifying bundle changes. Compare the service charge and each adjustment on two consecutive statements rather than assuming a national headline explains the difference.
Keep a copy of the agreement and any notice describing the change. If the charge does not match the offer you accepted, contact the provider through its official account or support channel and ask for an explanation of the specific line item.
Build a comparison that includes the later price
| Item | What to record |
|---|---|
| Monthly service | Introductory price, its duration and the rate after it ends |
| Equipment and setup | Gateway rental or purchase, installation, activation and shipping |
| Discount conditions | AutoPay method, paperless billing, mobile lines and other required services |
| Service terms | Typical speeds, latency, data allowance, contract length and early termination charges |
| Switching costs | Any overlap between services, installation work and return requirements |
Xfinity's official label guidance explains that introductory-rate labels also show the current post-promotion rate. It also notes that a label and a bill can differ, including when multiple-product discounts apply. Use the label together with the order summary and your written agreement.
Compare a price lock with the total cost
A longer price guarantee may help with planning, but check exactly which charge it covers. Equipment, taxes, optional services and lost bundle discounts may have separate terms. Do not assume a five-year service-price promise freezes the whole household bill.
For a simple comparison, add each month's required charges over the period you expect to keep the service, then add setup and equipment costs. Subtract a promotional credit only when you meet its conditions. Repeat the calculation if you would need to add a mobile line or cancel a discounted TV bundle.
Before leaving your current provider
Ask whether an existing-customer offer is available, request the terms in writing and compare it with an installable alternative. Confirm the new connection works for your household before setting an old-service cancellation date. Keep equipment-return receipts and review the final bill.
