Does VPN work with satellite Internet?

VPN can work with satellite internet, but it isn’t suggested. Running a VPN over a satellite network is not an ideal configuration and is known in the satellite industry. This is because VPNs are encrypted and require a low latency, high-bandwidth network to work correctly. Satellite internet is known for having high latency due to the distance a signal has to travel for communication between the satellite in space and the dish mounted on a house. Data speeds can be reduced by as much as 50-75% because of this. If 10 seconds of work on the network took 15 second with VPNs the data throughput would be negatively affected and would be extremely difficult to work with. If you have to use a VPN over a satellite network and you want to reduce latency you can send packets of information with encrypted header information (un-encrypted data). This is not the safest solution for sensitive data being transferred. The other solution is to have the packet of information transferred to another encrypted packet to make sure all the information is secure and safe. This will allow a VPN over a satellite system to be at high performance speeds while being secure. Even if these solutions work, it is not suggested to use VPNs while on a satellite network.
