When did Excede become Viasat?

Excede internet was launched in 2012 through Viasat. Its service is powered by the ViaSat-1 satellite. The satellite was announced in 2008 and was sent into space in October 2011. At the time that ViaSat-1 was sent out in space, it held the record for the highest capacity communications satellite. Initially the satellite broadband internet was launched as a response to the lack of coverage provided by terrestrial services. The service from Excede was faster than earlier satellite internet options. The internet service that Excede offers covers most of the United States including Alaska and Hawaii. At this point Excede serves about 687,000 customers in the United States. Excede also offered Excede business which was launched in 2014 and Excede Enterprise for live events, field operations and disaster response.
